Jannik Sinner has once again booked his spot in the final of the China Open, marking his third appearance in as many visits to Beijing. The 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win over Australia’s Alex De Minaur was a testament to Sinner’s resilience and tactical awareness, especially in a match that tested both his physical and mental stamina. “It’s obviously great to be again in a final,” said Sinner in his post-match press conference. “It’s a special, special place to be. It’s a lot of effort, a lot of tough matches, as we saw today. I’m even more happy to play here again the final.”
Despite visibly struggling with some physical discomfort at the end of the semifinal, the italian quickly dispelled concerns over his condition heading into the final. “Yeah, no, it’s nothing serious,” he explained. “I had some diarrhea the last couple of days. I lost some liquids. But I feel good. Was also a bit of tension. The mix of tension and the past couple days were not easy. But yeah, I’m feeling good. No concerns for tomorrow. It’s all safe.” The match against De Minaur was, as expected, physically demanding and required sharp adjustments in rhythm and strategy. While Sinner took the opening set, he faltered slightly in the second, allowing the Aussie to even the score. But it was the start of the third set that proved pivotal.
“Yeah, [it] was key moment for sure in the third set. When you break and hold serve, it’s good. Then I tried to stay a bit more aggressive, which worked very well in the third set,” said Sinner. “In the second set he had some chances. Couldn’t use them before. Then I had my chances. I couldn’t use them. It was a very even match. He was playing great tennis. I feel like we both were playing some great tennis. Was very physical. All things considered, I’m very happy about today’s level and match. Yeah, small ups and downs, which is normal. Generally talking, I’m very happy.”
