23 villages in Almaty region have already stopped selling alcohol
Tengrinews.kz – The number of villages refusing to sell alcohol is growing in Almaty region. Residents of one of them, the village of Bura, say this helped them achieve a rare result: not a single crime has been recorded there in recent years, citing 24.kz.
According to the TV channel, village elders proposed the initiative four years ago, and young people supported the decision. Local stores now sell neither alcohol nor tobacco products.
“Our village is peaceful. Our children are good, and so are the young people. Nothing ever happens here. The stores do not sell alcohol. That is why we live peacefully and everything is quiet,” one resident said.
Residents say the atmosphere in the village has become calmer.
“Now even our weddings are held without alcohol. We celebrate other holidays without alcohol as well. I believe this is the right thing to do. That is why we support this initiative,” another villager explained.
The report notes that police have not recorded any offenses in the village in recent years. Residents pay particular attention to educating young people and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
“Not a single crime has been recorded in our village for a long time. Alcohol is not sold here. The residents themselves launched this initiative and maintain order. Together, we continue our work under the ‘Alcohol-Free Villages’ project,” district police inspector Bekzat Bayytduysen said.
According to the TV channel, a total of 23 villages in Almaty region have voluntarily stopped selling alcohol. The regional police department said the number of such settlements is increasing every year.
