Snow, fog and icy conditions: storm warning issued for Almaty and 15 regions

Tengrinews.kz — Kazhydromet forecasters have warned of adverse weather conditions on Friday, October 23. Snow, blizzards, icy conditions, fog and strong winds are expected across the regions. Dust storms are also forecast in some areas, while high and extreme fire risk remains in effect.

In Almaty, precipitation in the form of rain and wet snow, as well as fog, is expected at night.

Fog is also possible in the west and north of Akmola Region. Northwesterly and northerly winds are expected, with nighttime gusts of 15–18 meters per second in the north and east. In Kokshetau, northwesterly winds will gust to 15–18 meters per second at night.

In the south of Almaty Region, precipitation in the form of rain and snow is forecast, with occasional heavy snow in mountainous areas. Fog is expected at times in the south and in the mountains. Northwesterly winds will gust to 18–23 meters per second in the east and mountainous areas. Ground frost of up to −3°C is possible in the north at night. High fire risk is expected in the west, south and central parts of the region.

Extreme fire risk remains in effect in Atyrau Region.

In East Kazakhstan Region, precipitation, mainly snow, and icy conditions are expected, with heavy snow in the north, east and mountainous areas. Blizzards are possible in the west, north, east and mountainous areas. Westerly and northwesterly winds will gust to 15–20 meters per second in the west, north and south. In Ust-Kamenogorsk, precipitation, mainly snow, along with blizzards and icy conditions is expected. Westerly and northwesterly winds will gust to 15–18 meters per second in the morning and during the day.

Fog is expected in the mountainous areas of Zhambyl Region. Northeasterly winds will reach 15–20 meters per second at night in the mountains and during the day in the southwest, northeast and mountainous areas. Ground frost of up to −3°C is forecast in the west, north and east at night. High fire risk is expected in the north and south. In Taraz, northeasterly winds will gust to 15–20 meters per second during the day.

High fire risk remains in effect in the west, south and east of West Kazakhstan Region.

In the north and east of Karaganda Region, precipitation, mainly snow, and icy conditions are expected. Fog is forecast in the north and east at night and in the morning. Northwesterly and westerly winds will gust to up to 15 meters per second in the north and east in the morning and during the day. Extreme fire risk remains in effect in the west. In Karaganda, occasional precipitation, mainly snow, and icy conditions are expected.

High fire risk remains in effect in the south of Kostanay Region.

A dust storm is possible during the day in the north, east and central parts of Kyzylorda Region. Northeasterly winds will gust to 15–20 meters per second in the east at night and reach 15–20 meters per second during the day, with gusts of up to 25 meters per second in the east. Ground frost of up to −3°C is expected in the north and central areas at night. Extreme fire risk remains in effect across the region, with high fire risk in the north. In Kyzylorda, a dust storm is expected during the day, with northeasterly winds of 15–20 meters per second.

A dust storm is forecast during the day in the north of Mangystau Region. Easterly winds will gust to 15–20 meters per second during the day in the west, north and east. High fire risk remains in effect across the region, while extreme fire risk is expected in the central part.

In Abai Region, precipitation, mainly snow, and icy conditions are possible. Blizzards are expected in the west, north and east, while fog is forecast in the south at night and in the morning. Northwesterly winds will gust to 15–20 meters per second in the west, north and east. In Semey, precipitation, mainly snow, blizzards and icy conditions are expected, with northwesterly wind gusts of 15–20 meters per second.

In the mountainous areas of Zhetysu Region, occasional heavy snow is possible, while fog is expected in the east and mountains. Northwesterly winds will gust to 15–20 meters per second in the east and mountainous areas, 23–28 meters per second around the Alakol Lakes, and occasionally 30 meters per second or more during the day. Ground frost of −1…−6°C is expected across the region at night. Extreme fire risk remains in effect in the east, with high fire risk in the south. In Taldykorgan, ground frost of −1…−3°C is expected at night.

Fog is forecast at night and in the morning in the north and east of Ulytau Region. Extreme fire risk remains in effect in the west and central areas.

In Pavlodar Region, precipitation, mainly snow, is expected, with icy conditions in the west, south and central areas. Fog is possible in the north and east. Northwesterly winds will gust to 15–20 meters per second during the day in the west and south. In Pavlodar, precipitation, mainly snow, and icy conditions are expected.

At night, precipitation, mainly snow, and icy conditions are forecast in the north and east of North Kazakhstan Region. Fog is possible in the west. Northwesterly and westerly winds will gust to 15–20 meters per second in the north, east and south. In Petropavlovsk, northwesterly and westerly winds will gust to 15–20 meters per second at night.
