Billion-dollar grosses and new premieres - how much Kazakhstani films collected at the box office

Tengrinews.kz — The October box office for Kazakhstani films is currently led by "7 Qaraqshy," which earned 730 million tenge in its first three weeks. However, the melodrama "Zharygym-ai," initially overlooked as a frontrunner, has already surpassed it in total revenue. Tengrinews.kz explores which local films are drawing crowds, how much they have earned, and which titles are nearing the billion-tenge milestone.
Current Kazakhstani Cinema Rankings and Box Office Totals
Following the weekend of October 8–11, "7 Qaraqshy" maintained its top spot at the Kazakhstani box office. It was followed by the new comedy "1+3" in second place, with the melodrama "Zharygym-ai" taking the third spot. Notably, no single film managed to exceed 100 million tenge over the four-day period, according to Forbes.kz.

"14 Kun": Comedy Surpasses One Billion Tenge
The comedy "14 Kun" continues to attract audiences, despite a gradual decline in weekend rankings. In its seventh week of release, the film earned 24 million tenge, bringing its total box office to 1.072 billion tenge.
According to Arasha.kz data for November 2025, 10th place is held by "Business in Kazakh: India" (1,281,598,850 tenge), while 11th place belongs to "Taptym-au Seni 2" (1,198,850,506 tenge). To overtake "Taptym-au Seni 2" and claim the 11th spot, "14 Kun" needs approximately 127 million tenge more. To break into the top ten, it must exceed the earnings of "Business in Kazakh: India," requiring an additional 210 million tenge.
"7 Qaraqshy": Path to Profitability
"7 Qaraqshy" has held the number one spot at the Kazakhstani box office for three consecutive weeks. Over the weekend of October 8–11, it earned another 96 million tenge, bringing its total revenue to 730 million.
The film's budget stands at 720 million tenge. Although box office receipts have already exceeded this figure by 10 million, it is too early to call the project profitable. Box office totals do not equal net income for the creators; a significant portion of the revenue remains with theaters and distributors, and the film's final economics depend on various other expenses.
"Zharygym-ai": Why the Film is Trending
The melodrama "Zharygym-ai" continues to draw audiences even in its fifth week of release. During the October 8–11 weekend, the film earned 73 million tenge, bringing its total box office to 822 million.
Consequently, the film has already surpassed "7 Qaraqshy" in cumulative earnings, even though the latter remains the leader in terms of individual weekend performance.
"1+3": New Kazakhstani Comedy Premieres
Darkhan Sarkenov’s comedy "1+3" premiered in Kazakhstan on October 8 and immediately secured second place for the weekend. The film earned 80 million tenge in its first four days, according to Forbes.kz. Total cumulative earnings for the film have not yet been released.
"Qara Altyn" and Other Kazakhstani Premieres
The drama "Qara Altyn" earned 197 million tenge over three weeks of release. Of that total, 23 million tenge was earned during the weekend of September 24–27. These figures reflect the status as of September 27.
Based on true events, the film tells the story of entrepreneur Kassym Isagaliev, who decides to pivot from the construction business to the oil industry during the early years of Kazakhstan's independence, despite financial hardships and fierce competition.
All-Time Highest-Grossing Kazakhstani Films
The romantic comedy "Taptym-au Seni" remains the leader of the Kazakhstani box office with over 1.83 billion tenge in earnings. Second place is held by the drama "Ystyk Uya," followed by the film "Dastur" in third.
