By Alexander D. Lopez and Francis T. Wakefield Davao City – At least 12 persons were killed after an underground flashflood and landslide struck a mining tunnel in Mt. Diwata, Monkayo, Compostela Valley province, Sunday, local disaster officials said yesterday. Most of the victims were miners who were trapped inside the tunnel when the underground flashflood and landslide happened at 10:30 a.m. in S1 Destino, Australia Tunnel, Purok 3 in Mt. Diwata. The identities of those who perished in the accidents were not yet available as of press time. The Municipal Information Office in Monkayo town identified those who survived the incident as Aljun Dumalaga, Oliver Ugarap, Carlito Morado, Alberto Agyang, and Angelito Tano. However, the local police reported that only three miners and a rescuer died in the tragedy. It also reported three missing.
