Drought in Kazakhstan: which regions will be at risk in August
Where drought is expected
According to the final forecast, atmospheric drought is expected in certain districts of seven regions of Kazakhstan.
In West Kazakhstan Region, dry conditions are forecast in Bokeyorda and Zhanibek districts.
In Aktobe Region, drought is expected in Shalkar and Irgiz districts, while in Atyrau Region it is forecast in Kurmangazy District.
Atmospheric drought is also expected:
in Balkhash District of Almaty Region;in Moiynkum, Kordai, Sarysu, Talas and Zhambyl districts of Zhambyl Region;in Arys, Suzak, Kazygurt, Ordabasy, Shardara, Zhetysai, Baidibek and Keles districts of Turkestan Region;in Kazaly, Karmakshy and Shieli districts of Kyzylorda Region, as well as in Kyzylorda.
“Moderately wet conditions are forecast in Timiryazev District of North Kazakhstan Region and Uzunkol District of Kostanay Region. In the rest of the country, moisture conditions are expected to be close to normal,” forecasters said.
What atmospheric drought means
Atmospheric drought occurs when there is a prolonged lack of precipitation, high air temperatures and low humidity. Such conditions may negatively affect the condition of agricultural crops, pastures and crop yields.
