Three earthquakes strike Kyrgyzstan in one day

Tengrinews.kz — Three earthquakes were recorded in Kyrgyzstan on Sunday, August 9. The tremors occurred in different parts of the country, according to the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan.

First earthquake struck in the morning

The first earthquake was recorded at 9:33 a.m. Its intensity was estimated at around magnitude 3. The epicentre was located near the Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan border, 7 kilometres northwest of the village of Kochubayevo and 28 kilometres south of Andijan, Uzbekistan.

In Kochubaevo, the intensity of the tremors reached 2 points.

Second tremor recorded in the evening

At 6:33 p.m., seismologists recorded another earthquake with an intensity of around 3.5. Its epicentre was located in Kyrgyzstan, 6 kilometres southwest of the village of Zhar-Bashy and 126 kilometres southeast of Batken.

In the villages of Chak, Kulchu and Shibee, the tremors reached an intensity of 2.5 points.

Third earthquake struck later at night

The third seismic event was recorded at 9:42 p.m. The earthquake had an intensity of around 3 points. Its epicentre was located in Kyrgyzstan, 3 kilometres southwest of the village of Nura and 135 kilometres southeast of Osh.

In the villages of Nura and Irkeshtam, the tremors reached an intensity of around 3 points.
