Interior Ministry warns of increased traffic enforcement in Kazakhstan

Tengrinews.kz — Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has addressed drivers and warned that traffic enforcement is being stepped up through the use of digital technologies, according to Polisia.kz.
Baglanbek Aitpayev, deputy chairman of the Ministry’s Administrative Police Committee, said police officers are using drones, mobile systems installed on patrol cars, average-speed monitoring systems and laser-based equipment to detect traffic violations, respond quickly to dangerous situations and prevent road accidents.

“Unmanned aerial vehicles are used to monitor road traffic. Speeding drivers and serious traffic offenders can no longer avoid responsibility because violations are being recorded from the air. More importantly, the rapid response made possible by drones helps save lives and protect people’s health.
Another tool is mobile monitoring equipment installed on patrol cars. It allows officers to easily detect violations in moving traffic, including mobile phone use, failure to yield to pedestrians, speeding and improper manoeuvring.
For drivers who like to speed on intercity highways, average-speed monitoring is used. It analyses a vehicle’s movement over a certain distance. The system is currently operating on 12 major national routes.
Laser systems are also used to prevent road accidents. They are particularly useful at night, for drivers at risk of falling asleep at the wheel, and in adverse weather conditions.
Alongside digital technologies, we are also introducing artificial road narrowing in some areas. This is intended to encourage drivers to reduce speed, increase concentration and continue driving more attentively,” the Interior Ministry representative said.

According to him, all of these measures are aimed at improving public safety and reducing the number of road accidents.
