Kazakhstanis will be able to verify the authenticity of dietary supplements
Tengrinews.kz — Kazakhstan has approved new rules for the labeling and traceability of dietary supplements. Manufacturers and importers will now be required to apply special identification marks to supplements.
When mandatory labeling of dietary supplements begins
The new regulations, which establish the procedure for labeling dietary supplements and their subsequent traceability within Kazakhstan, were approved by an order of the Minister of Health of Kazakhstan dated August 3, 2026.
The document will come into force 60 calendar days after its first official publication.
Note: Drug labeling is a system of applying specific data to a product's packaging (most often in the form of a unique code), which allows for tracking the journey of a medicine from the manufacturer to the patient.
It is expected that labeling will make it possible to:
reduce the volume of illegal turnover and counterfeit dietary supplements;
increase tax collection;
create a level playing field in the market.
Earlier, Aigerim Sadubayeva, head of a department within the Ministry of Health's Sanitary and Epidemiological Control Committee, noted that labeling will allow for tracking the entire production and sales cycle of such products. Once the new rules take effect, consumers will also be able to verify this information through a specialized application.
Who will apply the labeling
For dietary supplements produced in Kazakhstan, the manufacturer will be responsible for labeling. If the supplement is produced outside of Kazakhstan, the importer is responsible for identification.
At the same time, products manufactured before the date mandatory labeling is introduced may be sold without it until their expiration date. The document also provides the option for voluntary labeling for such supplements.
Identification marks will be used to apply the special code. The rules establish requirements for their protection against forgery. Each label will be linked to a specific product package, and information about the supplement and its movement can be tracked in the system.
