President Buhari reveals Boko Haram secrets, makes demands

President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed the secrets of terrorists, especially the Boko Haram group constituting nuisance in Nigeria.

This was contained in a statement issued by Femi Adesina, the special adviser on media and publicity to the president, a copy obtained by The Punch.

The president, who spoke on Tuesday, April 5, at the state house in Abuja, during a farewell audience with the high commissioner of Kenya to Nigeria, Mr. Tom Amol, revealed that terrorist attacks in Africa have similar trademarks of intense planning.

He also disclosed that terrorists have strong alliances and proper financial sponsorship, which he insisted must be thoroughly investigated and reversed.

The president maintained that to successfully put a permanent end to terrorism in Africa requires stronger collaboration and commitment from governments, financial institutions and security agencies in tracking the sponsors of terrorist activities.

“Terrorist activities always have financial sponsorship and this can be seen in their acquisition of weapons, their movements and other logistics.  Here in Nigeria, we saw that Boko Haram had strong material resources and they had a close link to ISIL,” Buhari said.

President Buhari also noted that African governments must do everything possible to discourage the younger generation from being enlisted by terrorist groups, which explored youthful minds for suicide bombings.

“We need a whole cultural orientation in order to succeed against terrorism,’’ he added.
In his remarks, the outgoing High Commissioner said he enjoyed his stay in Nigeria and still looked forward to returning to the country in the near future,” he said.

The president has embarked on several international visits within a period of 10 months, mainly to woe foreign investment and solicits international assistance in the fight against the country’s major enemy, the Boko Haram terrorists group.

Though the president has come under huge criticism on these foreign trips, it is, however, believed that his numerous visits will soon start yielding the desired results in terms of economic boosts and otherwise based on the explanations made available to members of the public by his aides.

A source had maintained that the foreign trips were aimed at seeking a permanent end to the Boko Haram destructive activities in the Northern part of the country even though terrorism has become a global problem.

Theophilus Danjuma, (Rtd), the chairman, presidential committee on Northeast initiative at the commencement of a two-day security seminar, organised in Abuja by the Alumni Association of the National Defence College, revealed that a whooping sum of N2 trillion is needed in the short-term to rebuild areas destroyed by the sect in the northern part.
