Among those to be honoured is the executive chairman of the Sekunjalo Group and Independent Media, Dr Iqbal Survé.
The CGI, an initiative of the Clinton Global Foundation, was established by Bill Clinton in 2005.
The organisation convenes global leaders around the world to contribute innovative solutions towards tackling some of the world’s most pressing issues.
The annual meetings have brought together heads of state, NGOs, business leaders, Nobel Prize laureates, philanthropists and members of the media from across the globe.
This year’s annual meeting in New York is the last meeting of the CGI, because of Hillary Clinton’s promising campaign for the presidency of the US.
“These groups of people have contributed to the philanthropic goals of CGI, which is committed to human and children’s rights, climate change, health, education and social justice, which speaks to just some of the social impact initiatives that have been addressed by the committee.
“CGI members have made more than 3 400 commitments to action towards improving the lives of people and changing the world. To date, over 430 million people have been impacted across 180 countries in the world,” said Bill Clinton.
Survé has served on the CGI since its inception in 2005, when he was recommended by Nelson Mandela on the invitation of Bill Clinton.
“The Clinton Global Initiative has played a significant role in the fight against HIV/Aids and disease, conflict resolution, women abuse and violence, child trafficking and social justice in the world. It has been a privilege to be a part of such an organisation with such strong values,” said Survé.
Participation in the Clinton Global Initiative is by invitation only. The committee consists of today’s thought leaders and visionaries, dedicated to alleviating the plight of mankind and creating a better world for all to live in. – Staff Writer
