– Tottenham Hotspur scored five times in a one sided match, West Ham leave it late to advance
– QPR, Crystal palace and Swansea City were all knocked out by Premier League teams
The remainder of the round three games of the English League Cup were played on Wednesday night, September 21, with Manchester United and Manchester City advancing.
A rejigged Manchester United came into their game against Northampton Town having lost three consecutive matches, and there were nerves when a Micheal Carrick opener was cancelled out by Alexander Revell’s penalty just three minutes to half-time.

United came out in the second half with all the intensity and that finally paid off when Ander Herrera put United in front with Marcus Rashford adding a third with just 12 minutes to go.

In Manchester City’s game, Kelechi Iheanacho started in place of the suspended Aguero, but he could not get on the score sheet but Gael Clinchy and Alex Garcia would have no such troubles.
Gylfi Sigurdsson’s late goal was only a consolation for the Swans.

Sandro opened the scoring in the game between QPR and Sunderland but former Man Utd defender Paddy McNair scored twice to turn the tables.
The biggest winner’s on the night was Tottenham who produced a five star performance against Gillingham. Christian Eriksen (twice), Vincent Janssen (pen.) , Joshua Onomah and Erik were the goal scorers.

Meanwhile, Marco Arnatovic’s opener would count for nothing as Hull City made a comeback against Stoke City through Ryan Mason and Markus Henriksen.
