Uber to meet DMV, AG officials amid self-driving concerns
Uber will meet with officials from the Department of Motor Vehicles and the California Attorney General’s office Wednesday afternoon, as the clash continues over the ride-hailing company’s operation of a self-driving car pilot in San Francisco. In a Dec. 16 blog post, Anthony Levandowski, who heads Uber’s Advanced Technologies Group, said self-driving Ubers have been operating in San Francisco for over a month — and the company has also been “safely driving self-driving Ubers in the same manner in Pittsburgh for months, where policymakers and regulators are supportive of our efforts.” Since Uber’s Dec. 14 announcement, San Franciscans have flagged several incidents involving the self-driving Ubers. The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition has said the cars make illegal and unsafe right turns through bike lanes; Uber said it is working on this problem and has instructed drivers to take control for that type of turn.
