Obasanjo, Atiku queried over ownership of private universities

- Femi Falana states that the pension of Obasanjo and Abubakar, is not enough to build a primary school

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has queried where former president, Olusegun Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar got the money they used in building their private universities.

Falana speaking at the launch of Sahara Reporters’ civic media lab on Thursday, May 25, insisted that the pension of Obasanjo and Abubakar, is not enough to build a primary school.

The senior lawyer faulted the situation where the likes of Obasanjo, Atiku, Babangida and others, own universities, noting that such can only happen in a country like Nigeria.

“Have you ever heard of that anywhere in the world that the likes of Obasanjo, Atiku, Babangida and others, own universities, and of course, the man who is now pushing for restructuring, Atiku, has a university as well.

“None of these guys worked outside the government. One was a customs officer, the others were soldiers; their pension cannot establish a primary school, not to talk of a university. For young people, I think there is enough provocation on the part of the ruling class,” he said.

Obasanjo is the owner of Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun state, while former vice president, Abubakar, is the founder of American University of Nigeria in Yola, Adamawa state.

Meanwhile, the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has vowed to end corruption in Nigeria in the next 12 months.

Magu made the promise on Thursday, May 25 the during the official opening of the Ibadan zonal office and stakeholders engagement session, held in Iyagaku, Ibadan, The Punch reports.

The EFCC boss said the fight against corruption had just began, noting that in 12 months corrupt persons will not be seen.
