Zhanna Andreasyan: in view of int`l experience, separate legal regulation is planned for Academic City
ArmInfo. There are 6 main
directions for expanding Armenian universities and research
organizations. Minister of Education Science, Culture and Sports of
Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan stated during a consultation in the
government chaired by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
According to the minister, the first one is the classical direction.
" The so-called classical university, which should mainly include
fundamental sciences in social and humanitarian fields.," Andreasyan
said, noting that the latter will not function on the territory of
the Academic City. The second is the medical field, which includes
medical and life sciences fields. We assume that there is no need to
relocate it to the Academic City at this time either.
The last 4 directions are the universities that are planned to be
located in the Academic City. According to Zhanna Andreasyan, we are
talking about the following areas: technology, art, educational and
related sciences, and the law enforcement sector.
" The Academic City should meet the requirements to become an
environment guaranteeing modern research, innovative activities,
where university education will be inseparable from research," the
Minister said, noting that the "city" should also provide an
opportunity to commercialize the acquired knowledge.
The meeting participants also discussed issues related to the
location of the Academic City, the process of design work carried out
with the German GMP company, infrastructural and other issues .
For the implementation and further operation of the Academic City
project, the "Academic City" Foundation was formed, which will act as
the main agent for the implementation of the project.
It is also planned to have a separate legal regulation for the
Academic City, taking into account the international experience.
