Participants of march in support of Civil Contract attacked journalists
ArmInfo. Participants in the final election march in support of the ruling Civil Contract party attacked
journalists performing their professional duty.
Videos published on social networks show how supporters of the ruling
force throw bottles at a cameraman and a journalist from one of the
TV channels,, threatened and insulted them nd tried to hit them
with a flagpole.
In this regard, the Union of Journalists of Armenia (UJA) issued a
statement condemning attacks and insults against journalists. It
notes, in particular, that despite reports and statements by the UJA
about increasing cases of insults against journalists by
pro-government activists, the country's law enforcement agencies do
not intend to respond to this.
<Unfortunately, the ruling government not only did not improve the
situation, but also aggravated the tension. Therefore, we can
confidently state that what happened is directed and supported by the
ruling elite, in particular by Nikol Pashinyan personally," the UJA
statement says.
The Union of Journalists of Armenia once again calls on law
enforcement agencies to properly respond to what is happening and to
put an end to this permissiveness. The UJA recommends to the
leadership of the "Civil Contract" party to "restrain the instincts
of their sympathizers and supporters." The statement notes that due
to the inaction of law enforcement agencies, the work of media
workers today is significantly hampered, and the lives and health of
journalists and television cameramen are endangered.
"We also appeal to our international partners and local organizations
carrying out the observation mission to assess what is happening and
take steps to ensure the uninterrupted work of media
representatives," the UJA statement says.
