What's old is new
Standing proudly on the left is the famous Frear Building, home of Frear's Troy Cash Bazaar, one of the most popular department stores at the time. The landmark remained central to Troy's most fashionable until 1960, when the rise of suburbs and shopping malls brought the golden age of the department stores to an end. Currently, the Frear Building is home to several commercial and office spaces, most notably 'e ko logic, a sustainable clothing brand. In 1890, there was a three-story brick addition to the building, changing it from a home to a retail store. Jillian's, a sports bar from 1999 to 2012, was recently bought by entrepreneurs who plan to make the building into a pub and music venue in the large first floor space and a dance club above it.
