Former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has said that Berlin is making a “serious mistake” by leading NATO’s Eastern European buildup near Russia’s borders on the anniversary of the 1941 Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union Schroeder blasted the Merkel administration for the threatening provocation that risks sparking a new Cold War or worse and has called for a drastic change in European policy towards Russia.
