Judeh meets Cypriot president in Nicosia
AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Friday met with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades in Nicosia and discussed ways to build on the outcomes of Anastasiades' visit to the Kingdom in November.
They addressed ways to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation, in addition to the latest developments and challenges in the region and Cyprus’ role, as an EU member, in supporting Jordan, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Meanwhile, Anastasiades expressed his pride in the relations between Nicosia and Amman, and his friendly relations with His Majesty, expressing his appreciation for the Kingdom's role in dealing with regional and international issues, as well as its endeavours to achieve peace, security and stability.
Judeh also met with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides to discuss bilateral cooperation in all fields, regional developments and challenges and ways to develop ties and joint coordination, Petra added.
Judeh and Kasoulides highlighted the importance of the current trilateral cooperation between Jordan, Cyprus and Greece in the fields of tourism, energy and fighting extremism and terrorism.
The deputy prime minister reaffirmed Jordan’s unaltered stances regarding the Palestinian issue, reviving peace talks in the Middle East and the need for a political solution in Syria that guarantees the country’s unity and security through the participation of all Syrians, based on relevant international resolutions.
The ministers also discussed the latest developments in Iraq and Libya and called for political solutions and dialogue to overcome the crises in both countries.
Judeh reviewed the burdens Jordan is shouldering by hosting refugees, renewing a call on the international community to meet its responsibilities to help the Kingdom continue the humanitarian role it plays on behalf of the entire world.
Kasoulides highlighted Jordan’s key role in dealing with regional issues and working to achieve security, peace and stability.
Meanwhile, Judeh, as a speaker and guest of honour at the forum of ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions in Cyprus, delivered a lecture on the latest developments in regional and international arenas and Jordan’s stances towards them.
He said that Jordan considers the war against terrorism, as described by King Abdullah, to be a third-world war by other means, adding that the Kingdom would stay at the forefront of efforts to combat extremism and terrorism.
