Trump to hear military options on Iran as Saudis show oil site damage

CBS News has confirmed that Pentagon officials will give President Trump military options on Friday, for any possible retaliation against Iran for its alleged role in the strike on Saudi oil facilities. While the United States said it’s looking at all options short of going to war, the country is building an international coalition against Iran. But while Iran still denies responsibility, Iranian officials will likely face some tough questions next week at the UN General Assembly. Ian Lee reports.

Hundreds descend on Nevada desert near “Area 51”

Hundreds of outsiders are descending on the remote Nevada desert near the military's mysterious "Area 51" base. They are there for the so-called "Storm Area 51" event. What began as a joke on Facebook for people curious about the site and aliens has turned into a music, movie and space-themed entertainment festival. Decades of secrecy surrounding "Area 51" has fueled speculation that it's where the government studies aliens that have visited earth.

The powerful storm that's slamming Texas is now blamed for at least two deaths. Houston was inundated with more than nine inches of rain Thursday – that breaks the single-day record set in 1979 by more than two inches. Many communities devastated by Hurricane Harvey’s floodwaters just two years ago find themselves underwater again. Houston fire officials say they responded to nearly 2,000 emergency incidents. What the science says about the safety of e-cigarettes

Researchers are working hard to determine the cause of more than 500 cases of lung illness affecting e-cigarette users. Eight of those people have died. Even before this outbreak, e-cigarettes divided the medical community. The American Lung Association says bluntly, "e-cigarettes are not safe." But the American Cancer Society says they are "significantly less harmful for adults than smoking regular cigarettes." Missing 5-year-old from New Jersey was likely lured into van, authorities say

A frantic search is underway for a 5-year-old girl from New Jersey who disappeared while she was just feet away from her mother. Dulce Maria Alavez vanished Monday from Bridgeton City Park, about 30 miles south of Philadelphia. Authorities believe a man lured the little girl into a van and drove off. Anna Werner reports.

Historic flooding devastates Houston area

Storm-ravaged southeast Texas is reeling from days of relentless rain and dramatic flooding not seen since Hurricane Harvey. Remnants of Tropical Storm Imelda caused widespread devastation in the region. At least two deaths are blamed on the storm.
