Hyde United V Chester FC - Match Thread #7 - Pre-Season Friendly - 30/

On the back of a narrow win over Atherton Collieries on Tuesday we are back on the road as we make the trip to Greater Manchester tomorrow to play Hyde United away in our last match of pre-season and our last away match of pre-season where we look to make it four wins on the spin. In each of our last three games, new signing and hotshot Kurt Willoughby netted our winners so it would be quite something if he were to achieve that feat again at the Project Solar Stadium tomorrow. Earlier on today I attended our open training session ahead of tomorrow’s clash, and it was very intriguing to watch the structure of how we prepare for games. The likes of Adam Thomas, Lewis Earl, and Jamie Morgan participated in the whole session, so hopefully they will be available tomorrow as we have missed them due to injury.

Our last match was on Tuesday as we won 1-0 at home against Atherton Collieries in our last home pre-season friendly where we controlled most of the game. The first-half was relatively good from us as we dominated possession and were resolute in defence. Roughly midway through the half Kurt Willoughby made it 1-0 to us as he slotted home into the far corner in front of the Hipkiss Stand. As a result, King Kurt’s strike was the difference between both outfits at half-time. Meanwhile, the second-period was a quiet affair as we did not create too much, while at the other end the visitors did not cause us problems. We saw out the match to record our first and last home win of pre-season.

Hyde United play one league below us in the Pitching-In Northern Premier League Premier Division where they will look to have a much better campaign this time out. The Tigers finished just one position above Atherton Collieries (who we beat on Tuesday night) last season, so for a club who have had spells in both the National League and the National League North during the last decade, they will definitely be wanting to avoid being in another relegation battle in Step 3. We will be up against two former Seals tomorrow in Lancashire, who are Adam Dawson and Jack Redshaw. Right winger Adam joined us in November 2018, but despite him being a very experienced player he did not feature much for us. Dawson’s spell was short-lived here, as in January 2019 he departed us. On July 14th of this year Adam joined Hyde United which is where he has been at ever since. Lastly, striker Jack Redshaw joined us on loan from Ashton United last September, but after a lively start he went off the radar a bit. Last December Jack returned to Ashton United, while in June of this year he joined Hyde United from Ashton United which is where he has been at ever since.

Looking forward to my second trip to Ewen Fields, with my previous visit being a groundhop in September 2020 when I watched Hyde United draw 0-0 against South Shields. It is a very nice stadium for Step 3 with all four sides covered, and in my opinion it is good enough to host League Two football. Going to be an exciting day tomorrow with obviously the match to begin with, which will be followed by the Crowne Plaza bash to celebrate 30 years of the Deva. Really looking forward to it.
