ECFOLCC U1825 Final: Essex 7½-3½ Lincs
On chess.com - A top-six-boards performance of 5-1 without loss, fired Essex to their first ECF Online Championship at U1825 level in the Final against Lincs. Two more wins and a draw from the lower order completed the convincing victory. The six Essex wins and three draws are given below (Essex were Black on odds).  Congratulations all round.

Finals Night

The conclusion of the ECF Online Counties Championships is this Saturday, 22 August, starting at 6.30 pm.

The Essex Open team missed out on qualification for the Major Open Final, but Essex has a team in the U1825 Championship Final, where they meet Lincolnshire. In theatre, it is considered bad luck to say "good luck" so they say "break a leg!" instead; not sure how easy it is to undergo that particular misfortune online, so we'll leave it at that.

It's a Major Open drubbing! But U1825 reach the Final

ECFOLCC Major Open: Devon 9½-2½ Essex
On chess.com - At U175/U180 level, Essex has a 100% record against Devon from six meetings, all of which, however, felt like on a knife-edge. Online at Open level, however, is another matter, Devon being led off by GM Keith Arkell and followed by FM Claridge-Hanson and IM Gary Lane. Essex advance

Both Essex teams advanced to the Final sections, the U1825 team in rather more style than the Open.

Open Division 1B: Surrey 5½-6½ Essex
On chess.com - Essex had one last chance to proceed to a final stage, by beating Surrey in the last Group match. When Surrey declared four boards short, qualification looked a formality for Essex, but the eight Surrey boards were strong at the top, led by GM Bogdan Lalic and supported by Mark Josse 211, Clive Frostic 194 and two strong 170s before dipping to 160, 142 and 143. Open B: Essex 5-8 Greater Manchester - on ECF LMS
On chess.com Nothing much between the teams on paper, with Essex holding the edge on grades on the lower boards. Board 5 was afflicted by connection problems when we held a winning advantage and the outcome is unresolved at present. Essex' two wins:

July 2020 Grading List

The new Grading List is published. For the avoidance of doubt, this includes ONLY over-the-board results and therefore relates only to games played from 1 Jan 2020 to the point of lockdown, when all OTB activity this year ceased (plus of course, prior periods to make up the number of games). Online games are rated separately.

FIDE Online Olympiad

Playing 25 July - 30 August, the FIDE Online Olympiad happens on chess.com a platform familiar to Essex online players. Link below.

Games start at 7.00 UTC, which is 8.00 am.

Each team consists of six main players and possible six reserve players. The main players must include at least two women players, at least one player U-20 (born in 2000 or later) and at least one girl U-20 (born in 2000 or later): A (open) – boards 1 and 2, B (women) – boards 3 and 4... FIDE Online Olympiad

This event was published with dates of 22 July – 30 August, but the FIDE website now gives 25 July – 30 August. But still we can find no indication of the platform on which this will take place.

Sands takes the lead

In the second round of five, David Sands (Beachbrilliancy) assumed the sole lead in the Open with a fine win over FM Andy Lewis (PotatoeTheCat). David is the only player to have won both his games and is followed by a group of three on 1½ points, Hodgson (EastCoker), Goldberg (MiceSystem) and Barton (ganto), each having won in R2.
