Tracking the men’s NCAA basketball transfer portal based on best players at each position
Depending on what position your favorite team needs, these are some of the top names available.
The transfer portal is one of the most important tools in building a college basketball roster.
Although we know that roster continuity is one of the keys to success in the NCAA tournament, it is undeniably important for collegiate programs to use the transfer portal to find contributors as well. More than 1,800 men’s college basketball players used the transfer portal last season and some have played impactful minutes in the 2024 NCAA men’s tournament.
We have already ranked some of the best players (e.g. Tucker DeVries, who transferred from Drake to play for his father at West Virginia) who entered the transfer portal during March Madness. But we also thought it could be helpful to sort the best players available by position.ye
This list pulls from projected impact metrics for the 2024-25 season, calculated by EvanMiya.com.
Other metrics weighted in our rankings include NBA probability (via Nick Kalinowski), various other impact metrics including Box Plus-Minus (via Bart Torvik), and strength of schedule on their previous roster (via KenPom).
Note that this is not comprehensive and the portal is constantly changing, but if a player appears here, it means they are one of the top players. You can see a full list of the available players if you click here and you can also check out our rankings for the women’s college basketball transfer portal as well.
