The 2023-24 Houston Rockets will be led by former No. 2 overall pick Jalen Green, who has All-Star potential at the 2-guard spot thanks to his shot-making and explosiveness around the basket. With the team’s offseason additions, Green will be able to focus on scoring and attacking the basket.

Klay Thompson, in the final year of a five-year, $190 million deal, probably lands somewhere in the middle. A four-year deal in the $30–35 million per season range sounds reasonable, at least to the NBA executives I talk to. There is no sign of acrimony between Thompson and the Warriors. Bet on the two sides getting something done.

A criminal summons issued this week against Hornets forward Miles Bridges includes an allegation that he smashed his ex’s car windshield and violated a domestic protective order. Mecklenburg County court records show the alleged incident happened in Charlotte when Bridges and the woman met for a child custody exchange. With the NBA season right around the corner, we take a look at the teams with the most pressure to produce. Several of these teams will need to reach lofty expectations or at least not fall below a certain threshold to keep the status quo. Some of these squads have high stakes on the line such as the future of their star player.

The 2023-24 Indiana Pacers have some solid talent, led by All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton, one of the best young playmakers in the NBA. Haliburton helped former Texas standout Myles Turner have a career year in 2022-23 and the Pacers will be looking for more of the same this season.

The Charlotte Hornets’ depth chart has some nice pieces, led by star point guard LaMelo Ball, one of the most exciting young floor generals in the NBA today. Ball is flashy and impactful at the lead-guard spot.

The 2023-24 Golden State Warriors retain the bulk of their dynastic core, primarily in the form of two-time league MVP Stephen Curry, all-time shooter Klay Thompson and former Defensive Player of the Year Draymond Green. Behind those three, the Warriors will always be championship material, at least until Father Time starts to play a factor.
