Clippers have talked about Malcolm Brogdon with the Celtics
The price for Holiday likely starts at two first-round picks, but several teams in the mix have the means and motivation to go beyond that. The LA Clippers are reportedly in the hunt for the defensive stalwart, but they have continued to engage the Celtics in trade talks for Brogdon throughout the offseason, league sources told The Athletic under the condition of anonymity so they could speak freely.

More I think about it..Al/Rob choice doesn’t matter as much if POR isn’t concerned about getting any players of value back in a larger Jrue deal. Blake S&T idea Hollinger brought up is intriguing for making $ work. The Qs: How many picks go out? Does rerouting Brogdon add picks? – 12:58 AM

If Malcolm Brogdon is staying with the Celtics, here’s how league people — some of whom have worked with Brogdon — advise the club to handle the situation.

Jrue Holiday could help the Pelicans — but not how you think.
A Boston-New Orleans-Portland trade consisting of Holiday, Jonas Valanciunas, Robert Williams and Malcolm Brogdon makes sense for all parties involved.

Gist on Holiday thinking it through:
-White & Horford should be off the table
-Brogdon & Rob is the straightest path to making the $ work
-You can’t stack smaller salaries because Svi can’t be traded
-Any and all future picks should be on the table
-It’s a TOUGH call. Lean no – 2:25 PM

If I’m Boston right now I’m calling Portland and asking “how many first-round picks do we need to add to Malcolm Brogdon and Al Horford to get Jrue Holiday?”
He’s entirely gettable for them now. Imagine closing with Holiday-White-Brown-Tatum-Porzingis. – 6:00 PM

Obviously, a #Celtics package for Lillard would’ve centered around Brogdon’s contract, but that wouldn’t have been guaranteed to return additional picks for Portland. Could Rob and years of 1R picks reached the value of this MIL deal? Those future Bucks picks are hard to beat.. – 2:29 PM

More on this storyline
It is assumed that the Celts’ head of basketball operations is being honest and transparent with his reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year, mainly because Stevens has exhibited no other side to his nature. And according to league sources, being straight with him will be key to having him on board when training camp opens next week — and the trade of Damian Lillard trade to Milwaukee has made it even more critical that Brogdon be fully invested. The 30-year-old veteran of seven seasons doesn’t hesitate to speak his truths, as when he called out the Celts after their elimination for emphasizing scoring over the defense that had been the lead element in creating their status as championship contenders. -via Heavy.com / September 29, 2023
“He’s a smart person. He’s not stupid,” the exec told Heavy Sports. “He doesn’t think he’s a superstar, and you saw he was willing to accept a role playing behind Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown without any problem. That’s because he’s never considered himself a star. “But, yeah, he’s very smart. He gets the league. He understands what’s going on. He’s been in some situations where he was like, ‘I’m not falling for this crap. This is garbage. Why in the world would I play and risk injury and my career for this team that’s not even trying to win?’ He sees through everything. He’s a good guy and he’s smart. But he can be a bad guy if you’re not telling him the truth and you’re trying to pull a smokescreen over him. I like him. I think he’s a good guy.” -via Heavy.com / September 29, 2023
Brogdon has arrived in Boston and will be ready for training camp. “Everybody’s in Boston, everybody’s healthy, knock on wood,” Stevens said. “If everybody gets through the rest of the week, we should be full next Tuesday when we start practice. We’re excited about that.” -via Boston Globe / September 27, 2023
