Rudy Gobert on Evan Fournier situation in New York: It's weird... he can help a lot of teams
After Evan Fournier showcased his shooting Saturday night, the Knicks guard got a hardy endorsement — and words of advice — from a fellow Frenchman who is helping Fournier navigate a “disrespectful” situation. “He’s the best shooter on the team. He’s the best shooter on the Knicks,” Rudy Gobert, the Timberwolves center and 3-time Defensive Player of the Year, told The Post. “In terms of pure 3-point shooting, I think he’s the best. “I think he can contribute and help a lot of teams. I think everybody knows it. But it’s kind of weird when you end up on the bench and you don’t really know why. Sometimes you can be stuck in a situation — I know he’s going to have an opportunity again, and everybody will understand that he can help and win. And do it at a high level. And do it every night.”

Even without Gobert right now, the Wolves are huge: NAW, Ant, SloMo, Naz, KAT.
Feels like so many teams are running out bigger lineups in the preseason. – 8:30 PM

Some of these were easy to rank: Giannis, Jokic have titles — Luka is an international star. But it gets more complicated with Jaylen Brown, Rudy Gobert and Trae Young. Which “supermax” contracts will be more problematic over time?!?!?

More on this storyline
Keeping in mind these are only exhibitions, Fournier’s 40 combined minutes represent the first time he’s played that much in consecutive NBA games since October 2022. He collected 55 healthy DNPs last season and acknowledged disdain for the situation. “It’s unfortunate that it feels disrespectful. When things go that way and communication is not where he’d like it to be with his coach. But I think it’s better now. Hopefully,” said Gobert, who was teammates with Fournier on France’s national team at the Olympics and FIBA World Cup. “And he looked great (Saturday night). I know it’s going to be alright. And if it’s not here, it’s somewhere else. So if they don’t value him, I know there’s a lot of other teams that would take him on. And I know he’s a winner. He’s a great teammate. He keeps putting in the work. And I know he always will. Good things will happen.” -via New York Post / October 15, 2023
“I think it makes them better for sure,” Fournier said. “They’ve been saying they need a dominant big man and now they have one. So they’re better. It’s good for basketball, for the Olympics. I think basketball is gonna be the main event in Paris next year, so it’s good for the sport.” -via New York Daily News / October 9, 2023

Chris Fedor: #Cavs Georges Niang on whether he sees similarities between Evan Mobley and Rudy Gobert: “I would say Evan’s ability to protect the rim is, I don’t want to make a quote and have it go viral, but it’s along the lines of how Rudy Gobert protects the rim.” -via Twitter @ChrisFedor / October 14, 2023
The Utah Jazz recently traded away Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert. During their era, why could those talented teams not take the next step? Derrick Favors: I think we just got hurt at the wrong time. That last year, when we went to the playoffs, and we lost to the Clippers, they were a good team, but I think we could’ve beat them, but Mike Conley ended up getting hurt. Donovan Mitchell also got hurt. We were down our two leading guys. You’ve also got to remember that we were going up against Houston and Golden State when they had the best record in the league and the best team. Houston had James Harden at the time, winning 65 games. I think some of it was matchups, going against two historically great offensive teams. We couldn’t match up with them, but who could in the league? If it wasn’t for Golden State, Houston probably would’ve won championships. If it wasn’t for those two teams, we could’ve won a championship. -via HoopsHype / October 14, 2023
