Quentin Grimes on Pistons: The only place you can go is up right now with this team
“Just coming from the Knicks from the past few years having a lot of wins, I’m just trying to come in and bring some of the habits that I learned under [head coach Tom Thibodeau], and try to bring a winning culture, try to get it restored and uplift everything,” Quentin Grimes said during Monday morning shootaround at Madison Square Garden. “The only place you can go is up right now with this team.”

Quentin Grimes was surprised Knicks fans booed Evan Fournier tonight: “It was kind of not pleasant to see from the fans, but I thought he did a lot for this team. When I was here, he was always on time, always professional, but that’s Knicks fans for you, which is how it goes.” pic.twitter.com/tk31FH4qJP – 10:48 PM

Knicks lead Pistons, 110-109, with 58 seconds left in the 4th quarter. Brutal performance by the Knicks + timely buckets in a Quentin Grimes revenge game, but NYK has a chance to put it away. – 9:44 PM

More on this storyline
Grimes is part of a rebuild. The Pistons entered Monday’s matchup against the Knicks with eight games won to 48 lost. Hardly a situation anyone wants to inherit — but Grimes sees an opportunity. Not just to expand his game on a young, feisty Pistons team, but also to help drag the franchise from the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. “I think I know what it is. Me and Monty already talked about it,” he said. “They weren’t gonna trade for me if I wasn’t coming in to be one of the [core] players on the team. So I think everybody knows their role for sure.” -via New York Daily News / February 27, 2024
Grimes said he’s unsure where things went south with his relationship with Tom Thibodeau. “It’s understandable just knowing the relationship last year was different than it was this year. But it’s all love,” he said. “It wasn’t like how it was last year, but sometimes it goes like that.” He also said the competition at his position played a factor in him falling out of favor. -via New York Daily News / February 27, 2024
Kristian Winfield: Quentin Grimes: “If [Jalen Brunson] and them was on the other side of that call, they getting that call.” A blown foul call helped the Knicks narrowly escape a loss to the league-worst Detroit Pistons. “Everybody in the country thought Ausar got fouled.” nydailynews.com/2024/02/27/nba… -via Twitter @Krisplashed / February 27, 2024
