Assam cabinet, led by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, plans to repeal Assam Muslim Marriage and Divorce Registration Act from 1935, banning child marriages, enforcing registration, and abolishing qazis. The move faced criticism for religious polarisation and alleged introduction of uniform civil code.

An auto rickshaw driver has been charged by Ludhiana rural police for sexually abusing a student in his car when she was on her way to Jagraon for an exam. The accused auto rickshaw driver was from the same village as the student.
Jharkhand's state energy department approved the proposal to provide 125 units of free electricity to domestic households catered to by JBVNL. The new scheme will benefit 21.72 lakh households and 7.34 lakh new connections. The cabinet also approved funds for a milk-cum-dairy product plant, police barracks, e-pos machines, and an amendment to building by-laws.
