Suspect in Opelousas shooting in April arrested in Point Coupee Parish
According to Opelousas Police, Lafleur was arrested on July 29 in an unrelated investigation in Point Coupee Parish. Lafleur was reported in stolen vehicle that was involved in a high speed chase in West Baton Rouge Parish that ended in Point Coupee Parish.
UPDATE, 8/1/23, 8:34 P.M.: According to Opelousas Police, Lafleur was arrested on July 29 in an unrelated investigation in Point Coupee Parish. Lafleur was reported in stolen vehicle that was involved in a high speed chase in West Baton Rouge Parish that ended in Point Coupee Parish.
Multiple agencies were involved in the apprehension. A detainer has been placed on Lafleur for the charges related to the April 14 shooting. Lafleur will be transported to the St. Landry parish jail to face the following charges
ORIGINAL, 4/25/23, 5:21 P.M.: OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) - Opelousas Police is asking the public for help finding the person responsible for a shooting earlier this month.
Opelousas Police is trying to locate Janiaya Lafleur, 20, of Eunice, after she was identified as the person responsible for a shooting in 700 Blk. of Madison St. that injured one male victim on April 14.
An arrest warrant was issued for Lafleur, and she is being charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder and one count of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.
Police said the shooting resulted from a dispute between the victim and Lafleur over a mutual acquaintance.
