'I am going to protect mine': Mother who started school bus fight says her daughter was bullied
Thomas said she accepts she was in the wrong, but felt she needed to take matters into her own hands after her child continued to get bullied.
ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- A woman spoke with News 10 after the incident where she started a fight on a school bus between her daughter and another student. Christi Thomas stopped by the station to get her side of the story out.
Thomas said she accepts she was in the wrong, but felt she needed to take matters into her own hands after her child continued to get bullied.
"I let you mess with my child for too long," Thomas said.
Thomas claims her daughter was continuously getting bullied by the girl on the school bus and at school. She said after multiple attempts of reaching out to the school, the bus driver and the girl's parent, Thomas said enough is enough. Since the incident, Thomas said she is being harassed by the community with claims that she hit the child on the bus. She said video evidence shows that is not true.
"You said I beat your child, but the video showed clear that I did not hit your kid," she said.
Thomas said she went to Breaux Bridge Elementary, where her daughter attends, to speak with them about the incident. She is happy to say things are being put in place to stop any future issues from happening.
Thomas said the school placed a stay away order.
"They also suggested that I get a protective order, and that's what I'm in the process of doing," Thomas said.
Thomas wants to set the record straight that she is not what people are making her out to be.
"I am not a monster, but I am going to protect mine," she said.
As previously mentioned, Thomas was cited and charged with misdemeanors of trespassing and inciting a fight between juveniles.
