KROTZ SPRINGS, La. (KLFY) – A Krotz Springs man was arrested in early February on charges of cruelty to his infirmed wife.
According to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a complaint on Jan. 22 of cruelty to a person with infirmities. The Louisiana Governor’s Office Adult Protective Services interviewed the wheelchair-bound victim. They reported physical abuse and medical care neglect. The victim also stated that her husband, Brent James Lahaye, 44, knocked out some of her teeth during the abuse.
During the investigation, detectives found that Brent Lahaye became abusive in late December of 2023. The victim said that Lahaye has locked her in the bedroom, isolated her from others, taken her cell phone away and neglected basic needs by leaving her in soiled diapers and not taking her to medical appointments. The victim said this led to them becoming ill. When questioned, Lahaye denied that he was ever abusive towards the victim, but he said the victim told him that she was in an abusive relationship with a former partner.
On Jan. 29, an arrest warrant was issued for Brent James Lahaye on charges of cruelty to a person with infirmities and false imprisonment.
On Feb. 2, St. Landry Crime Stoppers featured Lahaye on their Fugitive Friday program in an attempt to find him. That evening, a tip came in saying he was in Krotz Springs. Lahaye was apprehended by the Krotz Springs Police Department and transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail for booking.
No bond has been set at this time.
