Opelousas Police Chief holds first community conversation meeting
Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc says the community conversation meeting is a way the citizens can ask questions, express their concerns, as well connect with law enforcement and help make Opelousas a better city.
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc says the community conversation meeting is a way the citizens can ask questions, express their concerns, as well connect with law enforcement and help make Opelousas a better city.
During the first community conversation with Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc, citizens in Opelousas arrived at Opelousas City Hall to engage in conversations with Chief LeBlanc and his department. LeBlanc invited the city of join him in conversations about their community and ways the Opelousas Police Department can make the city safer.
"So, your input here tonight on how we can move the Opelousas Police Department forward for the betterment of community is crucial. We want to hear the concerns. We want to hear the gripes. We want to hear what you have to say."
During the meeting LeBlanc discussed the annual report on crimes stats, police presence, and the current state of the Opelousas Police Department. Citizens were also allowed to ask questions as well as express their grievances with law enforcement, and with passion, Chief LeBlanc addressed both.
"What I am saying is that I stand for public safety and I will not bring anything to the City of Opelousas or allow anything in the City of Opelousas that, I think, will bring harm to the citizens of Opelousas."
Throughout the meeting LeBlanc assured citizens that this is just the first of many where people can come out and connect with his department. He says his goal is to make Opelousas a safer and better city. "We are here to move our city forward. We are here to give you the law enforcement that you deserve. But we are here to give you the law enforcement that we promised."
