Jeanerette City Marshal's Office and City Court introduces warrant forgiveness program
The forgiveness program will last from Thursday, March 28 until the end of April.
IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- The Jeanerette City Marshal's Office and City Court are beginning a warrant forgiveness program. Marshal Fernest Martin is encouraging people to take advantage of this opportunity if they think they have an outstanding warrant or fines with the Jeanerette City Court.
"It really just allows those that qualify an opportunity to come in and really take care of business. In other words, satisfy their warrant," Martin said.
To find out if you qualify, Martin said you must call prior to coming in. Once approved, you have to appear in person with your I.D. to prove your identity. If you have any felony warrants, then you will not qualify for the program.
"If you have a warrant that is a felony warrant, a warrant that says, 'cash bond only' or you need to see a judge, then it is what it is," Martin said.
The marshal's office and city court look to make this a yearly program. The marshal believes this time of the year would be great to start the program to allow people to begin their spring on a good note.
"If we can help them kind of at ease, the frustration of like 'I can take care this ticket or be able to come have a good easter for my kids' let's try to make it a great holiday for everybody," Martin said.
The forgiveness program will last from Thursday, March 28 until the end of April.
