AUSTIN (KXAN) — Two men were arrested after a fatal shooting in north Austin on Jan. 12, according to court documents.
Arrest affidavits said Erik Martinez Jaimes, 21, and Mereicio Allen, 21, were both charged with capital murder in connection with the incident.
The victim was identified as 22-year-old Cleiver Gamez-Santos, according to officials. An autopsy revealed his cause of death was due to gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the affidavit.
Police responded after receiving multiple calls regarding gunshots at the Cricket Hollow Apartments, located at 11441 N. Interstate 35.
At the scene, officials found Gamez-Santos, and he was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Court documents said officials believed Jaimes and Allen identified Gamez-Santos as a target for robbery, as he was wearing an “Audemars Piguet watch valued at $99,850,” and in the process, committed capital murder when he was shot and killed.
