Hays County to create new program addressing mental health, substance abuse
Hays County announced its health department now has a behavioral health coordinator position to address mental health and substance abuse outside of the criminal justice system.
AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Friday, Hays County announced its health department now has a behavioral health coordinator position to address mental health and substance abuse outside of the criminal justice system.
The county said the new coordinator would form a behavioral health program, which would be responsible for identifying and coordinating mental health resources available in the county.
“This position will address mental health disparities that can exist in the places where we live, work, learn and play. It will develop a roadmap for how the county address[es] mental health in the future,” Matthew Gonzales, the Hays County Health Department manager, said.
