AUSTIN (KXAN)— The Austin Fire Department rescued five cats after a fire at a northeast Austin home Sunday night, according to a social media post from AFD.
AFD said the fire began in a garage and spread to the attic of the home on Newport Avenue, which is near Interstate 35 and Braker Lane.
AFD said the firefighters fought through smoke and heat to extinguish the fire. Two of the cats needed oxygen after being rescued.
This is an ongoing investigation, AFD said.
