Former Blanco County detention officer faces sexual assault charge
According to the Blanco County Sheriff's Office, a former detention officer was charged with sexual assault.
BLANCO COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A former Blanco County Sheriff's Office detention officer has been charged with sexual assault, BCSO told KXAN Monday.
In a statement sent to KXAN, the sheriff's office said the Texas Rangers conducted an investigation of the detention officer for reported misconduct. The investigation led to the arrest of former detention officer James Gray.
KXAN asked the county's district clerk's office for an arrest affidavit. The clerk's office said it wasn't available as of Monday. KXAN asked BCSO for additional information and an employment timeline for the detention officer.
An attorney for Gray wasn't immediately available. This story will be updated if we receive additional information.
'I was definitely angry'
The sheriff's office did not identify the name of the person the officer is accused of assaulting.
However, Randall Vradenburg said his girlfriend was a victim.
Vradenburg said his girlfriend is an inmate at the jail. He said she called him on Friday to tell him what happened.
"She said that a sergeant at the jail exposed himself to her and tried to put his hands on her physically," Vradenburg said.
He said she told him it happened in an area in the front of the building where they do cleaning.
"If you're put in a position like that, to keep people safe, you definitely shouldn't be trying to take advantage of them or manipulate them like that," Vradenburg said.
Vradenburg said his girlfriend told other jail staff about what happened. He's grateful they took her report seriously.
"Luckily, other people that work at the jail took the initiative and got some things done," Vradenburg said. "She just notified somebody that she thought could help her and they did. So thank God for that."
This is a developing story and will be updated.
