The DA’s office said the jury convicted John Steven Hernandez, 36, in the death of Marisela Gonzalez, 32.
AUSTIN (KXAN) – A Travis County jury Friday sentenced a man to 36 years in prison for murder in connection with the 2022 death of a woman in Austin, according to the Travis County District Attorney’s office.
The DA’s office said the jury convicted John Steven Hernandez, 36, in the death of Marisela Gonzalez, 32.
According to Austin Police, she was shot at a northeast Austin apartment and later died on Sept. 15, 2022.
Police said officers were called to the area of Berkman and Reagan Hill Drives for a shooting. That’s just south of U.S. Highway 183 and east of Cameron Road.
Officers found Gonzalez shot inside an apartment unit.
In 2022, police said during their investigation, officers determined Gonzalez had been in an altercation with another person, which escalated into the shooting.
Police arrested Hernandez on Oct. 4, 2022, the DA’s office said.
