Willing to ditch your gas mower? Austin considering new incentives

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin City Council passed a resolution Thursday allowing the city manager to explore expanding Austin Energy's electric lawn care equipment rebate.
The goal of the resolution was to help cut down on toxic emissions, as well as incentivize Austinites to ditch gas-powered equipment for less harmful alternatives.
The current program covers lawnmowers, leaf blowers and weed eaters, and it offers discounts for part of the year, with a maximum rebate of $30.
Advocates for the resolution said they hoped that expanding the program would lower both noise and pollution.
The resolution was presented by Council Member Ryan Alter.
