AUSTIN (KXAN) — The City of Austin will launch its 2024 Warrant Amnesty Program on Monday, according to a memo sent to the Austin City Council and mayor.
The program was created to assist people with outstanding warrants or unpaid parking citations as a way of community outreach, according to the memo.
“The direct assistance offered by this program provides meaningful opportunities for court staff to interact with and help Austinites, as well as improve trust, transparency, and perception of the court and criminal justice system,” the memo said.
In 2023, the program was able to clear more than 2,300 outstanding warrants and citations.
The program runs from Monday, March 25 until April 19 and applies only to active cases. All services are free and no appointment is needed, according to the memo.
