More than 50 years ago, the barbecue places, pharmacies and department stores along Main Street in Taylor were bustling with railroad engineers, plumbers and migrant workers. Much has changed since, and many of those buildings have sat empty and in disrepair.
TAYLOR, Texas (ABJ) — More than 50 years ago, the barbecue places, pharmacies and department stores along Main Street in Taylor were bustling with railroad engineers, plumbers and migrant workers. Much has changed since, and many of those buildings have sat empty and in disrepair.
Over the last several years, however, there are signs that the street is primed to bustle again, with new restaurants, breweries and coffee shops aiming to serve the Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. factory rising a few miles away and the thousands of people that will support its operations. And the city is taking measures to help ensure the trend continues.
The Taylor Economic Development Corp. recently approved $350,000 in infrastructure improvements for two projects that will bring retail, restaurants, hotel space and more to the city of about 17,000 people located 35 miles northeast of Austin.
