Sausalito ferry service suspended after pier problem
Golden Gate Ferry is offering bus service between the Sausalito and San Francisco ferry terminals.
Golden Gate Ferry has suspended boat service indefinitely between Sausalito and San Francisco because of a pier problem on the Marin end of the route.
A statement issued by the ferry service said a routine inspection on Friday revealed an “issue” at the Sausalito landing. The service released no details about the problem, and a spokesperson said he had no updates on Saturday.
The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District, which runs Golden Gate Ferry and Golden Gate Transit, is offering bus transportation between the two ferry terminals instead.
Golden Gate Ferry has provided service in Sausalito for more than 50 years. The service carries about 500,000 riders a year between Marin and San Francisco.
The Sausalito dock was built in 1996. A dock replacement project, which has been in the works since 2008, is expected to cost about $22.5 million. In November, the Federal Transit Administration announced a $6 million allocation to support the project.
