San Jose suffers first traffic fatality of 2023
A solo-vehicle crash in the area of Cottle and Blossom Hill Roads early Friday morning left one person dead at the scene, police say.
A solo-vehicle crash early Friday became San Jose’s first traffic-related death of 2023, according to the San Jose Police Department.
The crash was reported in the area of Cottle and Blossom Hill roads at 4:21 a.m., SJPD says. One person was pronounced deceased at the scene. It was unclear whether the deceased person was the driver.
Units are currently at the scene of a solo vehicle traffic fatality in the area of Cottle and Blossom Hill Rds.
One person has been pronounced deceased at the scene.

SJPD said traffic would be impacted in the area of the collision.
The city has now experienced its first traffic-related death of 2023. In 2022, San Jose set grim milestones with 65 traffic fatalities in the calendar year, a modern record for the city. Among potential reasons for the spike in deaths were steady increases in the city’s unhoused population and a car-centric and car-dependent city design.
