One person was killed Saturday night after the car they were driving collided with two other vehicles and a traffic pole near the intersection of North Livermore Avenue and I-580 in Livermore.
According to the California Highway Patrol, two vehicles stopped at a red light tried to make a left turn across North Livermore Avenue onto the I-580 westbound onramp when the light turned green. At the same moment, a car traveling south on North Livermore Avenue ran a red light and crashed into both cars.
That car then collided with a traffic pole. The driver did not survive the incident. The drivers of the two vehicles attempting to turn were assessed at the scene of the crash and refused transportation to a hospital.
According to the CHP, there was “minimal effect on traffic”, as a single northbound and southbound lane remained open on North Livermore Avenue.
CHP officers saw the crash as they were pursuing reports of five cars drag racing on North Livermore Avenue between Manning and May School roads shortly before 9 p.m.
