First-team all-West Catholic Athletic League. Hit .374 with 34 hits and scored 24 runs. Finished with 19 walks and just six strikeouts.
Michael Castaneda, P/IF, Valley Christian, senior
WCAL pitcher of the year. Went 12-1 with a 1.18 ERA for the CCS Division I champs. Also played third base. Hit .385 with 35 hits and 30 RBIs. Bound for Northern Kentucky.

Connor Harrison, C, De La Salle, senior
Known as “Bear,” the EBAL and Bay Area News Group player of the year hit .404 (40 for 99) with a team-leading 36 RBIs. He also had 14 extra-base hits, including three HRs.
Ryder Helfrick, C, Clayton Valley, senior
Most Valuable Player in the Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division. One of the Bay Area’s top prospects. Hit .510 (47 for 92) with 11 extra-base hits, including five HRs. Drove in 24 runs. Caught and called pitches for inexperienced staff.

SCVAL De Anza Division MVP and a Cal State-Fullerton commit. Hit .464 (39 for 84) with 29 RBIs. Had 17 extra-base hits, including four HRs. Scored 24 runs and knocked in 29.
Chase Knight, IF, Bellarmine, senior
First-team all-WCAL selection. Led the Bells in hitting with a .382 average. Finished with 34 hits and scored 25 runs for the CCS Division II champs. Fresno State commit.
Tyler Kubo, OF/P, Amador Valley, senior
Received first-team all-EBAL honors. Drove in a team-leading 15 RBIs to go with 26 hits and six doubles among his seven extra-base hits. Bounds for Occidental College.
Tatum Marsh, OF, Valley Christian, junior
A Stanford commit, the center fielder hit .368 with 35 hits and 28 RBIs. Scored 43 runs. Received first-team recognition in the WCAL.

WCAL MVP was a vacuum at shortstop and a strong presence in the lineup. Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo commit hit .352, drove in 31 runs and had 12 extra-base hits, including two HRs.

Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division MVP hit a team-leading 400 (36 for 90) with seven doubles and two HRs. Scored 26 runs.
Hideki Prather, C/IF, Campolindo, senior
Hit .461 (35 for 76) with 27 RBIs, 14 doubles and five home runs. Received first-team all-DAL Foothill recognition as Campo reached the NCS Division III final.

UCLA commit pitched 60 1/3 innings, including 10 ⅓ in the playoffs, and finished with a 1.28 ERA. Co-pitcher of the year in the BVAL Mt. Hamilton Division. Struck out 86 and walked 17. Drove in 10 runs in a two-game sweep of Leigh that clinched a share of league title.

First-team all-BVAL Mt. Hamilton pick. Went 13-2 with a 1.37 ERA, striking out 81 and walking 18. Hit .383 with 36 hits and 25 RBIs. Scored 23 runs.

First-team all-PAL Bay Division honors. Finished the season with a .455 batting average and 40 hits. Drove in 24 runs and scored 22. Also was 4-2 with a 1.86 ERA.

Bay Valley Athletic League MVP hit a team-high .411 with 30 hits and 16 RBIs. Walked 16 times.
Daniel Hernandez, P, James Logan, senior
Co-MVP in the Mission Valley Athletic League went 6-0 with a 1.27 ERA for the league champs. Hit .310 and drove in 17 runs.
Aidan Keenan, P/IF, Live Oak, senior
Co-pitcher of the year in the BVAL Mt. Hamilton Division and bound fo Stanford. Finished 6-1 with a 0.74 ERA. Pitched only 1 ⅔ innings in the playoffs but 47 for the season. Hit .319 with 15 RBIs.

First-team all-WCAL selection helped the Warriors win the CCS Division I championship. Hit .390 with 32 and 19 RBIs. Knocked in 19 runs and scored 17.

Hit .467 and received first-team all-EBAL honors. Scored 18 runs and knocked in 11.

Went 6-1 with a 1.73 ERA for the WCAL runner-up. Named first-team all-league, finishing with 74 strikeouts and 21 walks. San Diego State commit.

First-team all-Bay Valley recognition. Hit .464 with 37 RBIs. Had eight doubles, three home runs and two triples. Scored 30 runs.
Jackson Short, P, St. Ignatius, senior
Pitched a team-high 71 innings with a 2.96 ERA, helping St. Ignatius reach the CCS Division I semifinals and win the NorCal D-II title. Shut out Los Gatos for six innings in a CCS opener and pitched a complete game in a 3-2 NorCal win over Granite Bay.
Nathan Tichy, OF/P, Pioneer, junior
BVAL Mt. Hamilton Division MVP went 9-2 with a 1.20 ERA, 118 strikeouts and 16 walks. Hit .383 with 25 RBIs.
Myles Walton, OF, Clayton Valley, senior
First-team all-DAL Foothill honors and Sacramento State commit. Center fielder hit .431 with seven extra-base hits and 14 stolen bases. Led off every game. Scored 27 runs and walked 15 times.
Coach of the year
Brian Pollzzie, St. Ignatius
Led the Wildcats to the NorCal Division II championship, beating Bellarmine in the semifinals and Casa Grande in the final, and the semifinals of the CCS Division I playoffs. In the first round of CCS, the San Francisco school won at Los Gatos. SI finished 20-12 one year after going 12-15.

The Bay Area News Group’s high school sports staff selects the team. Those eligible for all-Bay Area News Group honors come from leagues based predominantly in Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.
