Two dead, one injured in multi-vehicle collision on Vasco Road in Brentwood area
Authorities were trying to determine why the driver of a Nissan collided with the car in front of them, then swerved across the road and collided head-on with another vehicle.
BRENTWOOD — Two people were killed and one was injured in a multi-vehicle collision Monday morning on Vasco Road, the California Highway Patrol said.
The names of the people killed were not immediately available as authorities worked to confirm their identities and notify their next of kin.
The collision happened about 6:37 a.m. Monday on Vasco Road south of Walnut Boulevard.
The CHP said its preliminary investigation indicated a Honda Fit with one occupant and a silver Nissan Altima with one occupant were traveling southbound on Vasco Road while a grey Acura Integra with one occupant was traveling northbound on Vasco Road.
For unknown reasons, the Nissan collided with the rear of the Honda, then crossed over into the northbound lane and collided head-on with the Acura, the CHP said.
The Nissan and Acura drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene, the CHP said.
The Honda driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
The collision shut down all lanes of Vasco Road and a SigAlert was issued at 6:52 a.m. Vasco Road reopened about 9:23 a.m., authorities said.
