Authorities identify Brentwood teen killed during shootout
The shooting happened in the 800 block of Marjoram Drive in Brentwood.
BRENTWOOD — A 17-year-old who police said attempted to rob another man and wound up dying in a shootout that involved a third person has been identified, authorities said.
Brentwood police Lt. Walter O’Grodnick said investigators believe the shot that killed Abel Juarez, of Brentwood, on July 14, appears to have come from a 21-year-old Antioch man that police said Juarez and a 20-year-old Walnut Creek man tried to rob.
The Walnut Creek man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, conspiracy, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, discharging a gun at a vehicle, and carrying a loaded gun in public, authorities said. Investigators are still working to determine if that man fired a shot that contributed to Juarez’s death.
All three people involved in the incident fired guns, according to police.
Police said Juarez and the Walnut Creek man tried to rob the third man about 7:45 p.m. in the 800 block of Marjoram Drive after leaving a residence.
