Man dies in East Oakland shooting
The killing is the 59th homicide investigated by police this year and the second on Thursday. Last year at this time police had investigated 67 homicides in the city.
OAKLAND — A 46-year-old man was fatally shot Thursday night in East Oakland, authorities said.
His name was not immediately released. Police said he was an Oakland resident.
The shooting happened about 8:15 p.m. Thursday in the 9800 block of Edes Avenue.
Police said the man was walking to his car when he was confronted by another person and shot. The man was taken to a hospital where he died at 8:49 p.m., authorities said.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No arrests were announced.

Last year at this time police had investigated 67 homicides in the city.
