SHASTA COUNTY — The Wonder Fire, which burned across 162 acres just south of Shasta Lake for about five days, was nearing complete containment as of Friday morning, according to Cal Fire.
The Friday morning update, which the Cal Fire Shasta-Trinity Unit said would be the final one for the Wonder Fire, revealed that the blaze was 95% contained and that “no fire behavior” was observed within the perimeter of the area.
The final update confirmed that the fire resulted in no injuries or damaged structures. About 100 personnel remained at the scene on Friday, down from 200 at the peak of the fire.
The fire ignited around 4:15 p.m. Monday near Wonderland Boulevard and Ponderosa Road, according to Cal Fire. The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of Friday morning.
The fight proved to be a tough one for fire crews, as Cal Fire noted in mid-week updates that the steep terrain was difficult to access. Crews will remain on site though the weekend to continue mopping up and monitoring the incident.
