OAKLAND — A man fatally shot Thursday morning in the Eastlake district was identified by authorities and family Friday as Satyan Dave, 49, a resident of the United Kingdom.
Police are still trying to determine what Dave was doing in the neighborhood and why his was killed. No arrests have been made.
Dave was fatally shot about 5:11 a.m. Thursday in the area of Seventh Avenue and International Boulevard, East Oakland’s main thoroughfare.
Authorities said Dave was a contract employee for a shipping company with offices in Oakland. It was not clear what kind of work he did, but it may have involved some kind of security position, a relative said.
The shipping company declined to comment.
He had arrived on a ship at the Port of Oakland sometime Wednesday. How he spent his time after leaving the ship has not been completely confirmed, but he may have gone out to another city for dinner, authorities said. A relative said he did not know if Dave had been to Oakland before. He was apparently due to return to the ship Thursday morning.
Investigators said he was shot after apparently getting into an argument with another person on the street.
A relative said Dave lived in London and had two children.
